September is Constitutional Observance Month – a great opportunity to encourage your lodge, Masonic youth, and local community to reflect upon the achievements of our founding fathers, many of whom were Masons, and to consider the value of democracy within our society today. Read Grand Master Charvonia’s Proclamation.
Ready to get started? Try these easy tips:
• Start a conversation with your brothers in lodge about how you can set examples of kindness, temperance, tolerance, and respect within your community.
• Sponsor an essay contest for Masonic youth. Ask them to reflect on why democracy is important today, why the Constitution is still relevant, or how democracy is applied in their lives.
• Host a Masonic Education session to compare Constitutional language to the language found in Masonic ritual.
• Download resources from the Civility Toolkit to brainstorm democracy-related activities to try in your lodge, workplace, and home.
And, take Grand Master Charvonia’s words to heart: “Our foundational understanding of the importance of democracy will continue to be a source of inspiration and knowledge as we work together to build a brighter future for our children, and our children’s children.”
